Now in Tajikistan, you can often find successful women who are at the helm of their own business. But a couple of decades ago, a Tajik businesswoman was considered a rare occurrence. How the National Association of Business Women of Tajikistan promotes the role of women in the economy, and we will tell you about a quarter-century long journey in our material.
From teachers to entrepreneurs
The National Association of Business Women of Tajikistan (NABWT) over the entire period of its activity has implemented more than 70 projects for the economic development of women.
It was the first to provide support to hundreds of women at a difficult time for the country, creating conditions for learning new professional skills and increasing access to funding.
And it all started in the distant 90s, when the fratricidal civil war was still going on. Its losses were enormous: the war claimed more than 100 thousand lives, almost 1 million Tajiks became refugees. Families collapsed, houses were left without men. The entire burden of providing for families fell on the shoulders of women.
